Humble Beginnings
Founded in 1968 as a local non-profit by citizens of Walferdange, Bereldange, and Helmsange, Télédistribution Walferdange (TéléWalfer) was created to improve poor TV signal reception in the Alzette valley. The project began with a shared community antenna (CATV) installed in the forest above Helmsange, delivering six television channels from Luxembourg, Germany, France and Belgium to around 300 households.
What began as a simple community project soon became an important service for everyone in Walferdange. Over the more than five decades since, TéléWalfer has continued to evolve, investing in advanced CATV and internet technologies while maintaining its core mission: serving the community with reliable, locally managed telecom and media infrastructure.

Expanding TV Services
As demand increased, TéléWalfer did not stand still. The collective antenna network developed into a fully digital bidirectional cable TV system, keeping pace with changing technology. New channels were added, analog signals became digital, and high-definition viewing became standard. Unlike many providers, TéléWalfer maintained accessible prices – thanks to its non-profit status and community-driven approach.
From Cable to Internet
In the 2000s, TéléWalfer began offering more than just TV. The team upgraded their network by installing underground cables and adding a core network made of high performance fiber-optics to improve speed and stability. In 2001, TéléWalfer became one of the first in Luxembourg to offer internet via cable.
Over time, the internet access speeds were significantly increased. In 2015, TéléWalfer also added fixed-line phone services. Today, the offer includes internet speeds of up to 450 Mbps, and by the end of 2025, the plan is to increase this to 1 Gbps using the latest technology.

Always Local, Always Affordable
TéléWalfer remains proudly local and non-profit. This means residents benefit from responsive, personal customer service and fair pricing – something especially important in a growing commune like Walferdange, which covers just 7.2 km² but is home to more than 8,800 people from over 100 nationalities.
Looking Ahead
For over five decades, TéléWalfer has been more than just a service provider. It’s part of Walferdange’s identity – created by local residents and strengthened over time through community dedication and trust. Using its services is not only being a subscriber but a member of non-profit with voting rights. As technology continues to evolve, TéléWalfer’s goal remains unchanged: to provide reliable, affordable connectivity while staying rooted in the values of the community it serves.
