Walferdange Town Hall: The Heart of Local Life

A Symbol of Community and Administration

The Walferdange Town Hall has long been at the center of local life, serving as the administrative hub for the town. More than just an office for local government, it’s a place where important decisions are made and services are provided to residents. The current building was inaugurated in 1963, housing initially both the local police station and a branch of the State Savings Bank. In 1987, a major extension was added to the building, giving it its current size and look.

A Place with History

The current town hall was built to provide a dedicated space for municipal administration as Walferdange’s population began to grow. In the 1950s, the commune had around 1,500 residents—a number that has since increased to over 8,800 today, reflecting the town’s steady development.

Over the decades, the town hall has adapted to meet the needs of the growing community. It has hosted countless local elections and public meetings. The town hall also expanded over time to accommodate the increasing demand for administrative services.

Serving the Community Today

Today, the Walferdange Town Hall remains the go-to place for handling municipal services such as registering residents, issuing permits, and managing civil status updates. Each year, it processes hundreds of residency registrations and civil status updates, reflecting the growing and diverse population. Over 51% of Walferdange’s residents are foreign nationals, representing more than 100 different nationalities.

The town hall also serves as a venue for local council meetings and other official functions, reinforcing its importance in the daily life of the community.

More Than Just an Administrative Building

While it may seem like just an administrative building, Walferdange Town Hall stands as a symbol of local governance and community involvement. Its history reflects the town’s growth and its ongoing role in shaping the future of Walferdange.
